Hollywood is the one place where you can learn about the latest trends in and hairstyles. Celebrities will always be sporting the latest and the trendiest. And the trend in hairstyles right now is inclined towards straight as more and more celebrities sport sleek, straight dos.

A lot of Hollywood stars have maintained beautiful straight hair. A number is also following suit, having appreciated the benefits of simplicity. It’s like how the saying goes that less is more. While lustrous waves can be very appealing, straight hair can more often make you look younger.

Kate Hudson is one of the celebrities we are used to seeing with straight hair. She has such a bubbly and pleasant personality and her youthful-looking straight hair complements her disposition. She has had wavy or curly in a number of other movies, but in majority of them she sported her naturally straight hair, as she did in “Bride Wars” with Anne Hathaway. The different thing in this movie is that she had bangs along with her straight, long blond hair.

Famous icons from the music industry have made a trend with straight hair as well. Foremost at the moment is Lady Gaga. She sang the immensely famous party starters “Pokerface”, “Let’s Dance”, “Paparazzi”,and many more. She is undoubtedly a standout with her rather eccentric fashion taste and music videos. Lady Gaga’s hairstyles are kind of odd, but in a cool, fashionably way. Even though she piles up her long platinum hair with large accents and other styles, her normal hairstyle is kept long and straight with bangs.

Another music personality that has become a fashion icon as well is singer Rihanna. The music video of her famous version of “Umbrella” was very provocative and displayed her musical talent and charm. But more than anything else, it also introduced to the public the now in demand pixie haircut. Rihanna made famous Charlize Theron’s hairstyle in the movie “Aeon Flux”; shoulder-length straight hair that is longer in front. Until now, adults and young girls still request this hairstyle in salons.

One of the benefits of having straight hair is that you can play with it to have a young, playful hairstyle, and you can also work it to look formal and glamorously sophisticated. Megan Fox for example looked very sexy and elegant in the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. She swept up her hair and combed it with gel all the way back, showing off her great bone structure. In a similar yet milder version(sans the gel), Amy Adams did the same thing during the premiere of her movie “Julie & Julia”. Anne Hathaway look both young and classy during the 4th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards with her neatly styled shoulder-length straight hair.

With the right clothes and poised bearing, straight hair gives an aura of affluence and elegance. The perfect example for this is Catherine Zeta-Jones, who has naturally beautiful straight hair. She always looks elegant and sophisticated in a shapely dress or tailored outfit, simple jewelry and with her thick straight hair cascading down her back.

Do You Know How To Choose The Right Hairstyle For Your Face?

We often choose our clothing to accentuate our body shape and size, but have you considered matching the shape of your face to your hairstyle? Just as darker clothing can make you look smaller, the right hairstyle can do wonders for your looks. Most facial shapes fall into five basic categories: oval, square, triangle, inverted triangle, or round.

So how do you find out what face shape you have?

If your face is slightly wider at the cheekbones than at the forehead or jaw, your face shape is considered to be oval. The oval face appears slightly wider at the cheek-line, tapers slightly to the chin, and is generally considered the ideal facial structure because it is flattered by virtually every hairstyle.

If you have both a wide forehead and a wide jaw line, your face is considered to be square. It may appear more rectangular if the face is narrow or more square if the face is wide. When the square face is wide, a style that adds height to the top and length with low volume on the sides is more flattering, and tends to make the best impression. You also want to consider adding bangs at the forehead and a gentle curl inward at the jaw to soften the “corners” of the square. When the square face is narrow you can “widen” the look by adding curls on the side.

The triangular face is characterized by a narrow forehead and a wide jaw-line. Triangular faces do well with shorter, more volumizing hairstyles. Short, layered cuts with lots of curl and lift on top will add the needed balance to triangular shaped faces. If the face is just the opposite, a wide forehead tapering out to a more narrow jawline, it is considered the inverted triangle. A hairstyle with bangs on the forehead and a blunt cut at or just below chin level, as well as some wave to widen the style, will add balance to the inverted triangular shaped face.

The round face is generally easy to spot because it is just as it is described – a face without sharp angles. The round face tends to be wider at the cheeks and have softer features along the jaw-line and forehead. With a round face you want to add height to make the face appear longer, so layered styles with maximum lift on top and minimum volume on the side are a good choice to lengthen a round face.

If you are going to take the time choosing the best for you in color choices, makeup, and wardrobe, don’t ruin it all with a hairdo unbecoming to your facial shape. A good hairstylist can be invaluable when it comes to strengthening one of your most visible assets – your face! Whether your face shape is oval, square, triangular, an inverted triangle, or round, you can only make one first impression, so make sure you do so with a hairstyle that is becoming to your face shape.
