Life on the Edge III: Nottingham Lace
Once the Lace Market of Nottingham pounded to the Heavy Metal beat of its handmade lace-making machines… but no more. Cluny Lace is the last of its kind, still making world beautiful lace with its old jacquard machines. Owned and run by a tightly-knit family, Cluny Lace faces a dilemma — can the towns of the UK’s East Midlands find a place for the skills that made them rich? Does the lace which Mrs Thatcher once lauded as “truly British” now belong on museum shelves or designer dresses?
You’re not the last ones left in the USA because i work in a lace mill that has been around since 1801, we are based in Somerset, United Kingdom. We make lace and netting.
