Koppen – Belgisch vuurwerk: made in China
Koppen’ trekt met de Belgen naar de vuurwerkhoofdstad van de wereld. Tot twee keer per jaar gaat Joerie naar Liuyang in de provincie Hunan. ‘Hier zijn zeker negenhonderd kleine en grote vuurwerkfabrieken. Vooral de kwaliteit komen we hier controleren’. Het vuurwerk dat wij in België afschieten, wordt in China volledig met de hand gemaakt. En dat is niet zonder gevaar. ‘Maar ongelukken gebeuren vooral bij beginners’, zegt Tang You, een van de Chinese vuurwerkmakers. Ze is nu 22 en werkt al sinds haar achttiende in de fabriek. ‘Vuurwerk maken en afschieten is een passie, maar inderdaad niet zonder gevaar. Je moet echt opletten. Een mortierbom kan levensgevaarlijk zijn.’ Dat het afschieten van vuurwerk op zich ambachtelijk werk is, kon ‘Koppen’ vaststellen op een vuurwerkshow in Geel. ‘Het is misschien gevaarlijk, maar het is ook wondermooi. Je doet het uiteindelijk voor het resultaat. Als de mensen tevreden zijn, dan zijn wij dat ook.’ (c) Koppen 2010
