Wear whatever you like and set your own style. If you ever watch Project Runway, you’ll see that is what all the designers do there. I know reality TV isn’t reality… but Michael Kors said it best when asked about wearing basically the same black shirt and pants ensemble every week. He doesn’t have the time to make himself look fashionable – all that energy goes into his job. (Well, that was the gist of what he said.)
I don’t think you should be competing with your students. However, you should definitely demonstrate style. To me, that would mean wearing something simple and classic, but with a little bit of contemporary flair from accessories, such as a scarf, earrings, a belt, etc. It should also be very well fitted and appropriate to your body type and age. In a way, what you wear to class can serve as a lesson to your students.
