Seeing as how the 2008 ones are relatively new, you probably aren’t going to find many people that have had them long enough to comment on them
That being said, I am sure they are both manufactured to the same criteria with the same materials. While there may be some variation in end product, for the most part companies take quality control seriously and would not allow a new supplier to produce a product that doesn’t meet their specifications.
If you buy it from somewhere like REI, if you have a problem, they will take it back, no questions asked, do it makes any difference irrelevant.
