Do Women’s Clothes In China Only Come In Small Sizes?
I’m a female student going to Beijing in August for 5 months to study Chinese at a university. I love Chinese/Korean young women’s fashion so I plan on buying a lot over my time in Beijing. I’m 5’9″ and 135 lbs and wear a 7/9. I’m nowhere near overweight but I’m still concerned that the clothes will be too small because I’ve heard that most Asian clothes come in only tiny sizes.
they often have the big sizes in the windows…
it often happens that i pull the clothes off from those plastic models…
but 60% of dresses and underwear are really small…
and shoes are diminutive too…
thus your chances are 40% con 60% you’ll be able to buy what you like…
Chinese sizing is indeed typically smaller than American sizing. However, the only problem you might have would be in the height area. You can always go to the tourist markets (Silk Market, Ya Show, Hong Qiao Pearl Market) and you’ll most likely be able to find things there.
I wear an American XL in shirts and whenever I find something that’s not made for export, it’s labeled XXXXXL. Yes, that’s FIVE X’s! It’s very humbling!

Would that be an American 7/9? You will have some problems but it isnt impossible, the very fashionable clothing is usually small sizes. Especially for young people.
I wear a 3/5 in Canada and I do ok, thats a 26/27 waist and I am happy to say they have long legs on their pants and jeans !!! I have a hard time finding long enough pant legs in Canada. I need about a 35″ leg. Many Chinese women in Northern China are very tall.
Shoes can be hard to find, I take a 38 in China, a size 8 and I have to really hunt sometimes and dont often get what I want.
The good news is there are excellent tailors and seamstresses and it is not expensive to have clothes made to measure for you !! Designer fashions too.
Chinese girl usually 5′ to 5’5″ and 100 to 120 ldb, it is a little difficult to buy suitable clothes (a little too tall). If you meet tall girl in Beijing, you may ask them. You can also buy clothes on internet. Beijing must have many clothes shops sell them. Contact me if you have any difficulties.
Don’t worry they will have your size, since you’re not like a giant height!~ Also, a lot of Beijing people are actually not as short as you’d expect, since Western stereotypes portray Chinese as being short, when the Northern Chinese are actually rather tall (compared to SE asians)
Don’t worry about your size of clothes before you go!
There are always more choices of size in Chinese clothing shop.
If not, you are able to customize one more easlity there.
you are not very tall so no problem as long as you go to the big shopping centers which they have all sizes
It shouldn’t be a problem as Chinese women come in all sizes too.They’re not all 5′ tall and 90 lbs!
