How Can We The People Stop So Many Products From Being Made In China?
It’s become ridiculous. i try to always look for products NOT made in China but it seems that I have precious few options when it comes to most products. ALL sneakers, a lot of tools, clothing, furniture, etc… There seems to be no getting around it.
Who do i need to vote for to get away from buying these Chinese products? I’d like to support local products by buying Made in the USA, but sadly I don’t always seem to have that option.
Start requesting products made in USA or wherever it is you live.
Last Christmas, I went to all of the local stores and said, show me the items that are made in USA. There were very few to be sure, but way I see if the stores start geting enough demand from enough people, then they will have to eventually supply it.
Mind you, it won’t happen overnight. It will take persistence…and yes, willingness to spend a little more money, too…but it can be done. Last year, every holiday gift I gave was guaranteed made in USA.
You can also start patronizing your local farmer’s, artisan and crafter’s market, so not only are you getting quality foods and products made in USA, but those products are also made right in your own state or town, too!
Also, order online products that are made in USA. There are specific websites that specialize in this. Here are two links, but there are also others.
When it comes to this holiday season, I say think and SHOP locally!
EDIT
I just got an email from a friend warning about Halloween Candy (Pirates Gold) that had to be recalled cuz it was made in China that may have the melamine in it…so parents, BE CAREFUL!
Until you can convince the business owners that to make less money by hiring American workers, there will be a lot of products made in China.
What you can do is endorse entirely-American based businesses, and if you ever are involved in a company, try to move it away from outsourcing. Other than that the most you can do is parade around with signs or write a blog, etc.
It’s nearly impossible to stop what we started. Workers in the States expect certain wage levels and with them benefits, often times bonuses and surely consistent raises. Salary and benefits cost companies the most. A similar product made in the States would cost many many times more than those made in China and the American buyer simply will not pay it. A $50 item would most likely be $150 or more if made in the States. Many of the gift type items you would buy in a Hallmark or specialty gift store will not list “Made in China”. Gift companies figured out years ago that customers did not want to see that on the items so they don’t add it. I worked in the industry for many years. Sadly large filled container ships hit our shores from China and return practically empty.
The thing is, it’s really cheap labor over there. In the US, we have minimum wage to think about. True, some of the products are defective, but not enough to warrant stopping outsourcing, at least from a financial standpoint.
Try and buy locally. Go to Farmers Markets and go to local, specific shops. That’s all I can think of.
You do have that option, you just have to look around.
Eh we just have to cut off certain trade with them. Obviously they don’t get it.
find a USA only or whatever counrty store, they might be kidna hard to find and their prices will be high
