My wife has different pieces of but none of it was in china.

  6. Our term china for porcelain or ceramic ware is a shortening of chinaware and probably china dishes. So it doesn’t mean it’s made in china, it’s what it’s made OF.

    There are a great many items that have geographic location names – that are actually the name of materials or processes used in making the product.
