Chinese Dialects: Will Manderin Suffice Or Do I Need To Learn The Wu Dialect?

If one were to do business in Ningbo China, does it to know , or should I the Wu to be certain I can communicate effectively?
I understand and have already researched that Manderin and Wu are different enough that one who speaks Wu and not Manderin may have a tough time understanding me.
My question is: Do businesspeople in Ningbo either speak Manderin or English? Or should I learn Wu?
Thanks.

  1. Knowing just Mandarin is fine because it is considered China’s “common language”, so practically everyone in China speaks it. Also, it is the dialect that Chinese schools use to teach, so the businesspeople would have to know how to speak it if they have had any kind of education in China.

  2. Written Mandarin will be understood regardless. Spoken Mandarin is the official language of China and would be understood by practically any businesspeople.

  3. mandarin is enough. They are widely used in China. And most of chinese speak mandarin and a dialect.
